Vern. Mom. Metis. Massage Therapist.
I’m taking a Women’s Studies class at my college and it’s basically white women’s studies (surprise surprise- especially because I’m one of five non-white people). We have an open-ended paper due Sunday where we can talk about basically anything, including analyzing gender roles in a movie.
I’ve decided to talk about Pocahontas, the reality of being a Native woman, the way Pocahontas possibly confused/hurt us when we were younger, and the effects it continues to have today on the way non-Native people percieve us as women.
If you have anything you’d like to share about that movie, what being a Native woman means to you, etc feel free to share! I want to get as many voices in as possible on this because I know that meaning varies not only from person to person but from tribe to tribe; I want to be as inclusive as possible. (I am sosick of being unheard and ignored dxhsdhskdmdmakf).
